We’ve now arrived on Shetland after a pretty rough crossing from Orkney into Lerwick. The ferry company were considering cancelling the sailing because of the weather but eventually we made it. Today we headed for the south end, Sumburgh Head, to see the lighthouse and the settlement of Jarlsholf. It had been inhabited for about 3500 years until it was abandoned about 400 years ago. Stone age, iron age, Viking and medieval remains have been found at the site.
